A Look Inside the Warcraft Classes : Part 6
The Peasant
What is a Peasants' role in the party ? Well,
to put it simply, they are the cornerstone of any good group.
Although they are unable to actually fight, they are very
much a tradeskill class, and they are produce much essential
equipment
Peasants are only available as to Humans.
Equipment
They cannot wear armour, and their weapon choices are quite
minimal, however they are provided when you spawn,
so they are very self sufficient.

Combat Abilities
None.
This is the one downside, that even a skeleton can kill you,
if there isn't a melee
class handy to save you. This is a bit of a downside to the
class, but apparanty in
future expansions the pick will be able to do basic damage
- possibly not enough to
solo, but dual-boxing with a healer should be no problem.
Non-Combat Abilities
The key of the peasant class is the
ability to fabricate tradeskill items called "buildings".
These can be anything from player housing to the ability to
make better weapons spells and weapons for the other classes.
Every other character will rely on a peasant at some time.
Some of the things they can create are :
Some of the buildings are not that useful - the Fletching
Station does let you increase arrows, and provide a dropoff
point for Lumber, but rumour is that this is required to build
the most powerful melee weapon in the game - the 'Catapult'

Roleplay
At the moment, there are only a few emotes available,
- "M'Lord", which is handy when to open
conversations and negotiations.
- "We are under attack" good for letting
the melee know that you are being pounded on
- "Yes", the word with 1000 meanings, most
of them involving something positive
and we have recently discovered is a complex macro
that ends with "Why do you keep Touching Me"
- idea for when those cybering sessions need to be
brought to a close.
Future
Upgrades
Warcraft is not making the mistake
of having only the best abilities available to the
hard core players like us - the most powerful weapon
appears to be the 'Catapult'.
Not much is known about this, apart from this recent
screenshot released in beta chat which seem to suggest
it has a particle effect attached to it, and it does
more damage then any other weapon in the game

Summary
This is far superior to the other tradeskilling classes
in Everquest and Star Wars: Galaxies. Here we have
a full time tradeskil character with a dedicated job,
not a class that a Grunt or Conjurer can nip off and
do as required to fill a quest, leaving you sitting
in the bazaar with your piles of wood and gold and
nothing to do.
This is the sort of character I've been looking for,
with a lot of long term potential, and many varied
things to do. I can't see myself playing Everquest
anymore once this comes out - why be out farming platinum
all night I can be out harvesting Lumber _AND_ gold
?
Blizzard, You've done it again.
